Our Adoption Process

Before applying, please review our adoption policies (below), fees, and procedures to ensure our process is the right fit for you and your household.
Complete our online adoption application as thoroughly as possible. This helps our team get to know you and determine the best match for each animal.

Our volunteer application screeners review all submissions. Please allow up to 48 hours for an initial response. Only successful applicants will be contacted.
Approved applicants will be contacted to schedule a phone interview. This allows us to clarify application responses, get to know you better, and answer any questions you may have.
Once approved, you will receive a secure link to review and sign the adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee. Our team will then coordinate pick-up details.
Our commitment doesn’t end at adoption. We’re here to support you with guidance, resources, and referrals to help ensure a successful transition for your new pet.
Key Adopton Policies

We do not adopt on a first-come, first-served basis. Our goal is to find the best possible match for each animal and adopter.
All applications are reviewed. Due to volunteer capacity, only successful applicants will be contacted to proceed to the next stage.
We do not offer trial adoptions or overnight stays, and animals are not adopted out as gifts.
Boreal Animal Rescue does not offer trial adoptions or overnight stays prior to adoption. Adopting an animal is a committed decision, and we encourage all members of the household to discuss and consider adoption carefully before applying.
Our adoption process is designed to help ensure the best possible match between animals and adopters without the need for trial placements.
Boreal Animal Rescue does not adopt animals out as gifts. Adopting an animal is a long-term responsibility that should be decided on by the person who will be the primary caregiver.
If you would like to honour someone with a gift, we encourage alternative options such as:
Making a donation in their name
Sharing information about adoption so they can apply when ready
Adoption fees are non-refundable. Adoptions require significant time and resources, and there are no exceptions to this policy.

Adoption fees are non-refundable and support the care and medical needs of animals in our rescue.
What Adoption Fees Help Cover
Due to the remote and northern communities we serve, access to veterinary care may vary. Adoption fees help support animals through some or all of the following, as available:
Initial wellness assessment or health screening when veterinary access is available
Age-appropriate vaccinations when accessible prior to adoption
Required deworming and parasite treatment when possible
Emergency or stabilization care as needed
Transportation to foster care or veterinary services
Some animals may require additional veterinary care after adoption, which will be clearly disclosed prior to placement.
Our Commitment to Transparency
We are committed to open, honest communication. All known medical history, treatments received, and any outstanding care needs will be shared with adopters before adoption is finalized.
